Volunteer / Intern

The WWO is currently seeking a Conferences Co-Chair, Project Team Co-Chairs, and executive assistant for WWO Executive Director. There is some scope for interns and volunteers to be made permanent staff after 6 months, however this is not definite.

Conferences Co-Chair (approximately 15-20 hours per week)
During 2009-2010, WWO will be running several conferences at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and abroad as well as coordinating fundraising events to fund our projects. The WWO seeks to expand its events management team to ensure the success of our events and expand this area of our growing organization.

Duties specific to the international conferences will include assisting in the development of the conference programs, preparing written materials for conference participants, conducting research relating to water and technologies, developing lists of potential speakers and conference participants, assisting during the events, and preparing summaries of the conference proceedings. For fundraising events duties will include working with vendors and consultants to ensure the success of the events as well as working closely with WWO staff.

Ideal applicants will hold Masters or higher degrees in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, have an interest in water and/or energy and related environmental and technical issues, and have proven experience in conducting research. Previous experience is necessary in coordinating and executing high-level fundraising events. Experience in Development work is a plus. You will also need to be able to work independently, have a high degree of self-motivation and a high level of integrity.

Project Team Co-Chairs(approximately 15-20 hours per week)
During 2009-2010, WWO aims to begin promoting a large number of ambitious projects from proposal stage to on-the-ground helping-the-people projects. We have an eager group of project managers who require a central coordinator who is motivated, energetic and fun to drive us forward.

Duties specific to the Project Team co-Chair will include assisting in the development of project proposals, engaging foreign diplomatic posts in New York, working with the events and conferences staff to promote the project proposals at our events and conferences, working with our high-profile board to obtain funding for projects and the day to day tasks of running the project team ­ including running meetings, giving feedback on project profiles and World According to Water Country profiles, and working with the Executive Director and the other team co-chairs to actively shape the World Water Organization and its activities.

Ideal applicants will hold Masters or higher degrees in a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, have an interest in water and/or energy and related environmental and technical issues, and have proven experience in conducting research and managing people. Experience in Development work is a plus. You will also need to be able to work independently, have a high degree of self-motivation, well-honed self-organization skills, and a high level of integrity. Most importantly you will need to be able to inspire others.

Executive Assistant to the WWO Executive Director (approximately 15-20 hours per week)
Our very well established Executive Director needs a hard working, enthusiastic and well-organized assistant who is motivated to work to build the WWO with the assistance of the team co-chairs. Although the business processes at the WWO have developed strongly over the past six months, there is some scope for redesign to improve functionality and efficiency and we would look to the new EA to bring fresh ideas in this respect.

Duties specific to the Executive Assistant position will include liaison with the team co-chairs, managing meetings schedules and coordinating the activities of the Executive and Advisory Boards. The EA will attend meetings with the Executive Director and be require to assist during the running of Conferences at the United Nations Headquarters in New York or overseas, as well as the WWO’s events in New York City.

Ideal applicants will hold a strong Bachelors degree with some vocational experience. The Assistant will need to have strong knowledge of social networking sites (Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace, Youtube, Google Groups etc) ­ or be willing to learn ­ and equally have a good sense with computers and websites. Most importantly, the assistant will need to be capable with the Microsoft office suite. Proficiency of web editing software, Photoshop and other design software would be a real plus.
